- Bob Eaglesfield of Big Bird Design has been involved in computer composition from the days of the "new technology" newspaper systems of the 1970s. From newspapers he moved to systems for high quality book publishers and typesetters – still before "desktop publishing" and the advent of personal computers.
- When PCs arrived he promoted professional typesetting systems on networked PCs in favour of those early unproductive desktop publishing systems. When the web happened in the 1990s he embraced the technology.
- In addition to design and layout, Bob has also been active in the writing and editing aspects of publishing – particularly scientific publishing. He managed the publishing and public awareness departments for two prestigious international research institutes.
- It's important to keep up to date with the continually evolving technologies. Today's high quality systems for text and images are wonderful tools – but they are not solutions. Only with experience and flair can these tools be used to achieve worthwhile results.
